What are Line8 power tracks, and why you should consider upgrading to Line8 power socket systems

What are Line8 power tracks?

Power tracks are a type of power socket system, designed as an upgrade to the conventional General Power Outlet (GPO). Instead of offering a single, fixed socket outlet plate, power tracks use a mounted strip, onto which removable sockets can be placed at any point. This type of system can help to do away with the need for external power strips and extension cables.

The alternative would be to plan more power sockets around your house when you are renovating, but firstly, that requires a lot of predicting and future planning, you can't move your furniture around after you've put in the fixed General Power Outlet points, and adding more General Power Outlets later on often requires more work by digging into a wall.

Line8 Power tracks and socket systems helps you avoid this issue by allowing you to add, remove or reposition power sockets anywhere you like on the power track.

How do Line8 power tracks work?

Power tracks are mounted according to the same rules that govern the height and positioning of General Power Outlets, although they only require a single wall penetration through which to run cabling. Line8 uses 99.99% pure copper for its conductors, which have benefits for reliable power distribution.

Line8 sockets are powered by the track when you twist them into place and the 2 Machined Monoblock Phosphor Bronze contacts touch the conductors, closing the circuit.

We choose to use these rather more expensive materials in our construction of the Line8 Power Tracks and Sockets as they have the best electrical conductivity qualities, and provide the best safety features.

The quality of your switches and power sockets and General Power Outlets are all about the material quality of switches, contacts, and conductors, and we have cut no corners in the materials chosen by Line8.

Mechanical Shielding

Line8's electrical conductors are shielded, so there's virtually no chance of any electricity leakage. The electrical circuit is also always open, which means no electricity is flowing through it until you use the Line8 Power socket to close the circuit.

Line8 power tracks have IP ratings of IP2X, which indicates that the product is protected against the entry of any object that is larger than 12.5mm in diameter and longer than 80mm in length.

Where can Line8 power tracks be installed?

Line8 Power tracks can be installed in most parts of the home, but are most convenient in areas where a large number of appliances will be used (for example, in home theatres, living rooms, garages and kitchens). One particular advantage of Line8 power tracks is that they allow you to move around furniture without having to worry about how appliances will be positioned. Power tracks can be customised to fit rooms of any size, and can be installed to span corners.

Why is it more expensive than a power board or just a standard  General Power Outlet?

Line8 Power Socket systems seem more expensive than General Power Outlets and conventional power strips on the outset - however for many of our existing customers, the modularity, flexibility, and quality of the system justifies the price.
